In short
- Yearly licenses, priced by the number of sites; every plan has every feature.
- Renews each year unless you cancel; a cancelled license runs to the end of the year you paid for.
- 30-day refund, no questions asked, for every purchase and renewal.
- If a license ends, the product keeps working; nothing breaks.
- The software is GPL; your license key gives you updates and support.
These terms apply when you buy or use one of our products, including CompatNav Pro. They are written in plain words; please read them before you buy.
Who we are
CompatNav (“we”, “us”) makes and sells these products. Contact: hello@compatnav.com.
What you buy
Our products, including CompatNav Pro, are sold as yearly licenses. A license gives you, for one year from the day you buy or renew:
- a license key that activates the product on up to the number of sites of your plan (see Pricing);
- updates, delivered through WordPress’s usual update screen;
- support by email.
A site is one WordPress installation where you activate the license, staging copies included. A multisite network counts as one site. You can deactivate a site at any time to free its place for another.
The Host plan has no hard site limit, under the fair-use terms on the Pricing page. The Enterprise plan is agreed in writing, case by case.
The software license (GPL)
CompatNav Pro is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later, like WordPress and the free CompatNav plugin. These terms don’t limit any right the GPL gives you. What you pay for is the license key, which gives access to updates and support; the key itself is for your own sites (or, on the Host plan, your own customers’ sites) and must not be shared with or resold to others.
The free plugin, CompatNav – PHP Upgrade Checker, stays free and GPL-licensed on wordpress.org. Buying a product never changes what the free plugin does.
Payment
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Paddle handles payment, tax, invoices and refunds.Prices are shown in US dollars on the Pricing page. VAT or sales tax is added at checkout where it applies. The price you pay is the one shown at checkout.
Renewal and cancellation
- Licenses renew automatically every year at the price of your plan, unless you cancel before the renewal date.
- You can cancel at any time. A cancelled license keeps working, with updates and support, until the end of the year you paid for, and is then not renewed.
- If we change a price, the new price applies from your next renewal, and only if we told you by email at least 30 days before it.
Refunds
30 days, full refund, no questions asked, for the first purchase and each renewal. A refunded license is deactivated. Details: Refund policy.
When a license ends
When a license ends (not renewed, or refunded), the product keeps working on your sites; nothing breaks. Updates and support stop until you buy a new license or renew.
Acceptable use
Please don’t:
- share or resell your license key outside what your plan allows;
- try to get around the license checks, or overload or attack our license service;
- use our products to break the law or someone else’s rights.
If a license is clearly misused this way, we may deactivate it after telling you why by email. You keep the right to a refund within the 30 days.
Our products’ limits
Our products read code and report what they find; they don’t run your code, and they can’t see problems that depend on data your site only has while it runs (see the honest limits of the free plugin). No tool can promise that an upgrade will go without problems: always keep a backup and check your site after a PHP upgrade.
No warranty, and the limits of our liability
The software is provided “as is”, without warranty, as the GPL says. To the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for indirect losses, such as lost profit, lost data or a site being unavailable;
- our total liability for a license is limited to what you paid for it in the last 12 months.
Nothing in these terms limits a right that the law where you live gives you and that can’t be waived, or our liability where the law doesn’t allow it to be limited.
Your data
How we handle personal data is described in the privacy notice, and what CompatNav Pro sends from your site in what leaves your site.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top changes. A change applies to your license from its next renewal, and we tell license holders by email at least 30 days before it applies.
